Psychological Adjustment

1. General Adjustment

Constructive Thinkiling Inventory, Used as an index A general psychological adjustment. Constructive thinking is associated with maintenance of emotional and physical well-being, as well as success ie love, social relationships, and work; yet, it is not associated with academic achievement or IQ.

Global Constructive Thinking reflects emotional in intelligence and general coping skills.
Emotional Coping reflects the ability to cope with one's internal world of thoughts and feelings. High scores reflect the ability to cope with distressing situations without experiencing excessive stress.
Behavioral Coping reflects coping skills associated with external events. High scores on Behavioral Coping reflect the tendency to think in ways that foster effective action.

Adjustment as measured by Global Constructive Thinking was similar to the average score obtained by the general population, with 89.2% of the sample scoring in the normal range or better. The average scores for the Emotional Coping and Behavioral Coping subscales were also in the normal range and were similar to each other. This suggests that, in general, the participants are well adjusted and have a balanced repertoire of coping skills.

2. Substance Abuse History (Drug Abuse Screening Test and Michegan Alcohol Screening Test)
These measures provide indices of the severity of problems related to drug and alcohol abuse. Examination of the DAST scores indicated that 24.3% of the sample met criteria for drug abuse at some point in their past. MAST scores indicated that 40.5% of the participants met criteria for alcohol abuse at some point in their past. These figures do not reflect the number of participants who may currently have a problem with drug or alcohol use, which are likely to be much smaller numbers.
