Thank You
January 29, 2007
Your kind words and support of A Minor Consideration's labors on this Dakota Fanning fiasco and me personally mean more than you know.
The mainstream Entertainment Industry has been slow to respond, naturally, and continues to deny its role in the degrading sexualization of children. They would prefer that we not remember that Jodie Foster was stalked by no less than John Hinckley (he eventually shot President Reagan) thanks to "Taxi Driver's" imagery. So, too, the other person always cited, Brooke Shields who had to endure a terrifying stalker for fifteen years named Mark Ronald Bailey who was finally jailed in 2000.
The former kid stars in this amazing group know very well that young performers are paid a great deal of money to lie about their feelings and speak other people's words, and when you are really good at that, as most of us were, the potential for disasterous consequences are compounded by the type of image you've projected.
Dakota Fanning is at serious risk. We will always be here for her. We're not going away, thanks to support like you've expressed.
This dialogue will, I hope, continue once we ensure that even a DVD release is liable to result in criminal prosecution. No Distributors, at least at Sundance, offered to put this film into general release.
Now we have to worry about images of Dakota showing up on the Internet. We all need to pray for her safety.
Sincerely,
Paul Petersen
