Our legal expenses are being driven by the System's inability to see past the issue of "standing" to the very real facts of the life in reality show television families. It's as if the Higher Court would rather shoot the messenger than listen to the message.

The problem is that real life children don't have the luxury of an abstract discussion of legal principles when cameras and lights are part of their home environment right now, at this very moment in time.

Most ordinary folks understand that each of us has a "duty to report" when we are witness to life-threatening circumstances. Professionals in many walks of life are duty-bound to notify the authorities when they are confronted by known risk factors. In an inter-connected world none of us can foreswear our civic responsibilities.

In the case of "Jon & Kate" in Pennsylvania and Nadya Suleman in California the fate of 22 children is the real issue, not whether a whistle-blower needs to be a blood relative to sound an alarm.
