SAG Has an Eye on Ebay: An Update

September 8, 2003

You may have heard stories about headshots listed for sale on Ebay. Much to SAG's dismay these stories are true. We believe that this practice is not only an invasion of privacy, but it presents a potential danger to the safety of innocent actors whose personal information is made public without their knowledge or consent. While one source of the photos has been identified and dealt with by her employer, there are other sources that have not been identified.

SAG has established a task force to investigate the situation and to explore potential remedies. We have been in contact with Ebay, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, and others and are working closely with the Casting Society of America (CSA) on this matter. In addition to its efforts to eliminate the unauthorized sales of these photos, the task force is developing guidelines to help performers protect themselves from this type of exploitation.

The Screen Actors Guild is committed to stopping the exploitation of performers and will keep you apprised of our progress on this matter. If you have any information that would assist in our efforts to prevent the unauthorized sales of headshots on the Internet (or elsewhere), please .
