Members Elect Melissa Gilbert SAG President

LOS ANGELES, November 2, 2001 --- In national voting completed on Friday, November 2, Melissa Gilbert was elected Screen Actors Guild President, taking the position held since November of 1999 by William Daniels, who declined to run for another term.

Gilbert received 12,280 of the 27,730 ballots (45.3%) cast for President. Her opponents were SAG National Board members Valerie Harper, who garnered 10,692 votes (39.4%), Eugene Boggs , who received 2,553 votes (9.4%), and Angel Tompkins, who received 1,613 votes (5.9%).

"I'm thrilled and honored to have been elected SAG President and am extremely grateful to everyone who worked on or contributed to my campaign. Mike Farrell, who was elected Guild First Vice President, and I are looking forward to embracing and working with all the different voices in the Guild and its leadership. We're also looking forward to working with our fellow unions to bring film and TV production back to the United States," said Gilbert.

Congratulations also to Shelley Fabares, 3rd highest vote-getter for the board.
