Andrew Koenig leaves us

Andrew Koenig

As most of you already know, the body of former child actor Andrew Koenig was found in Stanley Park, Vancouver BC on Thursday, February 25, 2010. He was 41 and it appears that he took his own life, due to what his family said was a lifelong depression. He will probably be best remembered for his co-starring role on the sitcom series, "Growing Pains," which aired on ABC-TV from 1985-92; Andrew played the role of Richard "Boner" Stabone from 1985-89, in 25 episodes.

Andrew was born Joshua Andrew Koenig in Los Angeles on August 17, 1968. His first acting appearance was as an uncredited extra in an "Adam-12" episode, telecast on September 9, 1973, when he was 5. But, there was so much more to this very talented young man, than an ability to act. His many credits included projects where he was an Editor, Cameraman, Researcher, Writer, Producer and Director.

We are compelled to quote the words of his father, actor Walter Koenig, who said when telling the Press of his son's passing, "If you are one of those people who can't handle it any more, know people are out there who really care, before you make that final decision. Talk to somebody."

If you know of someone who has exhibited signs (regardless how trivial) that they are depressed, or who have even jokingly commented about committing suicide, let them know that you care about them, and that you are willing to help them. If you fear that you may not have the "correct" words to say to them, contact us and we'll help you to help them. This kind of tragedy can be prevented, in many cases.

We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Koenig family, and to Andrew's much larger family of friends and fans.
